Unforgiven is perhaps the most famous of the numerous Western movies starring Clint Eastwood and is generally considered to be one of the best Westerns ever filmed.
The Story of Unforgiven
When two cowboys cut up a whore in the 'ordinary' Western town of Big
Whisky the sheriff, Little Bill decides to flog the miscreants as punishment. But the whores are not satisfied with this justice and puts a bounty of the miscreants' heads. Enter wannabe gunslinger The Schofield Kid who enlists the help of veteran gun man Bill Munny (Clint Eastwood) and his long time partner Ned (Morgan Freeman). And then things start to heat up as the three of them try to flout the law of the heavy handed Little Bill.
To add a subplot to the story (which is quite rare in Westerns) there is the character of old and inapt gunman English Bob and his biographer (who is mislead into believing that English Bob was, in his day, the scourge of the West).
My Review of Unforgiven
In my opinion, Unforgiven is a classic Western film with a very basic and uncomplicated plot and plenty of intense violence and tough dialogues. With Unforgiven Clint Eastwood stamps his authority as a master both behind and in front of the camera and supported by a reputable support cast consisting of Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman.
The movie won 4 Oscars in 1993 including best director and best picture (Clint Eastwood) and best supporting actor (Gene Hackman as Sheriff Little Bill).
