The Social Network : Movie Review
January 19th 2011 14:49
The Social Network is the story behind the founding of Facebook and its journey from being just another project launched by a pair of young entrepreneurs to becoming the sensation of the decade. However, this movie focussed less on the actual creation of Facebook and more on the moral and ethical sacrifices made by its creator Mark Zuckerberg in making it a multi billion dollar phenomenon. From publicly making fun of his ex-girlfriend's bra size to stealing the basic idea behind Facebook from his three partners who wanted to launch Harvard Connect to selling out his best friend and co-founder of Facebook to make the company a billion dollar project instead of a million dollar one--Zuckerberg did it all in cold blood and with a steely glint to his eyes and become the youngest billionaire in history. But at the height of his glory, the ghosts from Zuckerberg's past finally catch up with him and won't go without a potentially nasty no-holds-barred courtroom fight...
Movie Making of The Social Network
The movie making of The Social Network is excellent and the pace never slackens and the fast paced narrative is regularly punctuated with great comic relief. Add to this Jesse Eisenberg's starling performance as the cold calculating and nonchalant Mark Zuckerberg and the support he gets from Andrew Garfield (Eduardo Saverin) makes The Social Network a prime example of great cinematography.
My Verdict on The Social Networks
In my opinion, The Social Network is easily the best thriller-without-guns I have ever seen. The pace hardly ever slackens and it keeps the viewer hooked for at least 90% of its run time. The Social Network isn't a movie about smartly dressed men in Wall Street stomping about on shiny floors. You can connect with most of the characters which further increses the experience many folds. A must watch!
