Sleeping with the Enemy starring Julia Roberts

Sleeping with the Enemy one of Julia Roberts' most popular movies costarring Patrick Bergin and directed by Joseph Ruben.
Story of Sleeping with the Enemy
Laura Burney's marriage was all but perfect--a beautiful house, a rich husband and dedicated friend circle and yet every second of her life she lives is sheer dread of doing something that might disrupt the absolute order of the house and then get beaten up by her husband. She has to escape! And she gets the perfect chance to change her life when her husband takes her on a boat ride and she fakes going overboard and is taken for drowned.
She is ready to start her life a new in a far off city with a new man but soon she finds out that she had grossly underestimated her husband and the possessive affection that he felt towards her. He will scour the four corners of the world and stoop to the lowest of lows to find his precious possession, his wife and when he finds her he will punish her for her betrayal of his love.
Review of Sleeping with the Enemy
Sleeping with the Enemy is in my opinion the best Julia Roberts movie and it is as much mention worthy for the tremendous performances from Julia Roberts and Joseph Ruben as for the terrific cinematography. Yet another example of how a great guy behind the lens can convert an average story in to a nerve jangling visual master piece (and I am not taking computer generated special effects). An out and out "ambiance movie" Sleeping with the Enemy will make your skin crawl and has many of the elements that qualifies a movie as a "thriller", but most noticeably the thrills.
Another thing I really enjoyed about the movie (and it is one of the major factors that drives the movie forward at least on an intellectual level) is the complex relationship between Laura and her husband. No doubt he is a wife beater but is he really sadistic? And there is no denying that he is intensely in love with his wife only his expression of love is often violent (but he is also remorseful) and he is just too obsessed with his wife to let her go her own free way. A fascinating--even haunting story.
