Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

This is an exciting movie choice for me. You know there are so many inspirations that film makers, directors, and screen writers use for their movies that a video game sounds ridiculously stupid. I mean there are already a plot, characters, and setting that have been created for them. This may be true, but you got to think of it a little bit differently than that. When you play a video game there are things that are only possible in games. For example do you really think that there are people in this world that can jump 7 ft and get cut and slashed multiple times, but they are fine a few minutes later?? Hell no! So by remaking a film based on a video game film makers have to take on the impossible challenge of somehow making the video game more realistic, but at the same time keep it exciting enough for the audience to enjoy.
So with this in mind I looked at the trailer. Also keep in mind that the movie is going to be produced by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, you the duo that brought you the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Anyhow I was quite impressed. There are a lot of special effects in the movie, and the levels of these special effects are on par with Clash of the Titans. However I think they downgraded the game just a little bit, but not by much. The only reason that I noticed it was because I was analyzing the trailer quite closely.

The plot line reflects the video game to some degree, but they are not 100% identical. So Prince Dastan (Gyllehall) reluctantly must cooperate with Tamina (Arterton) to keep a dagger safe from the forces of darkness. The dagger is capable of releasing “The Sands of Time”, a giant sandstorm that can be used by anyone to rule the world.
It looks like the Price of Persia stars Jake Gyllehall as Prince Dastan and Gemma Arterton as Tamina. Jake fits the character perfectly, he just looks the part and that’s that. However for Gemma . . . I don’t know about her. She is pretty and all, but she lacks the luster that a princess needs. I would have liked to see Emma Rossum co-star with Gyllehall one more time. They were priceless together in The Day After Tomorrow. Overall the cast is great . . . but not powerful. I expect this film to be like Gi Joe the Rise of Cobra. It isn’t an A-list cast, but the movie will still be tremendous.
This movie will have a lot of action and will be an intense film for all viewers. It is only rated PG-13, but like Pirates of the Caribbean this is a must watch movie. I expect it to have huge sales and maybe break a record or two. It opens May 28th so keep an eye out for the commercials and see for youself.
