FILMENATOR - My Candid Take on Movies from Around the Globe

Predators 2010

March 23rd 2010 03:59

The Predator saga continues with the latest addition of “Predators”. The story involves the main character, Royce, a mercenary. He is abducted by aliens and finds himself in a strange land with 7 other people. They all shared a common bond. They were all men capable of killing without remorse or regret. All of the men gathered in the land were warriors. They consisted of death squad members, yakuza members, convicts, mercenaries, and a serial killer.

Royce assumes the position of a leader and they band together in order to survive the environment. Then they encounter attacks from the predators. The band uses team work and the fighting skills that they already have in order to run away from the predators and delay their death. The group then runs across Noland. Surprised to see a fellow human the group asks who he is and where they are right now. Noland tells them the shocking truth. He reveals that they are on a different planet right now and have been gathered up as game to be hunted by an alien race known as Predators. . . . . . . . .

The cast is a rather disappointing one for such a film with this amount of potential. It stars Adrien Brody, and Academy Award winner for his role in The Pianist. I cannot picture Adrien Brody as a mercenary with elite fighting skills. He just does not look like the type of guy to play this role. Someone like Gerard Butler who has that tough guy image would have been more appropriate. Another actor that I’m surprised to see on the list is Topher Grace. . . . why in the world is he playing the role of a serial killer? Not just any serial killer a former number one on the FBI’s most wanted list!! He literally looks like he couldn’t squash a bug and have that on his conscience. Someone that I am happy to see is Laurence Fishburne better known as Morpheus from the matrix triology. He plays the role of Noland the American soldier that has been living on the planet for several years hiding from the Predators.

This film’s plot line is fantastic, and just like prior Predator and Alien movies we can expect high quality action with maybe a little gore here and there. However when I take a look at the cast I am sorely disappointed. There are just too many people that don’t belong in those roles. I mean Topher Grace? Come on!!! I would wait and really think about this movie before anyone decides to go see it. Perhaps get some feedback from some friends.
