No One Killed Jessica Starring Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan : Bollywood Movie Review
January 25th 2011 17:26
No One Killed Jessica is based on the true story of the Jessica Lal murder outrage where Jessica Lal a bartender (as shown in the movie) is shot down simply because she followed government directives and refused to give a drink to the son of a local minister. In No One Killed Jessica the active role played some media personnel in overcoming the rule of power and bringing the guilty to justice is highlighted. The story centres around the association of celebrity journalist Meera (Rani Mukherjee) and Jessica Lal's sister Sabrina Lal (Vidya Balan) and focusses on the clash between Meera's fowl mouthed fire brand and Sabrina's calm but equally fiery character and how they worked in hesitant harmony towards a common objective-- bringing the guilty to justice.
My Verdict on No One Killed Jessica
Personally speaking, I found the cinematography of No One Killed Jessica quite mediocre-- nothing more, nothing less. Barring the first half an hour, the majority of the movie resembles a news broadcast more than anything else, but considering that a bulk of the movie is shot in news rooms and the media is the main focus of the movie people can claim that it is a positive attribute. The camera work isn't anything too spectacular either and Vidya Balan just fades away behind a shapeless black kurta after the intermission. And to make matters worse the movie was quite annoyingly feminist and just about every male character in the movie is either a murderer or a devious manipulator or at best an out and out coward.
The only things working for No One Killed Jessica is the vivacious Rani Mukherjee and some very humorous one-liners.
