Move Over Shrek, Puss in Boots is Here!
December 8th 2011 07:12
From the makers of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda comes another anime franchise which is here to stay. Even as the sun has quite possibly set on the once mesmerizing Shrek series, one of the ogre's side kicks, the dashing and endearing Puss in Boots is here to take over center stage.
Story of Puss in Boots
Puss in Boots tells the story of animation's favorite cat after Tom (as in Tom and Jerry) before he met the Donkey and the Ogre, when he was just an orphan kitten living in Imelda's orphanage with the Egg--Humpty Dumpty (before he got cracked of course). Once they were brothers in a world that refused to recognize them and dreamed of making it big by finding the magic beans and capturing the Golden Goose from the Giant's Castle before something terrible happened that destroyed their friendship forever--or so they thought.
But nearly a decade on they get the opportunity of a life time of stealing the magic beans from the murderous outlaws Jack and Jill and get the Golden Goose to repay their debt to Imelda and the orphanage. But to succeed they need to team up one more time and make a new addition, Kitty Softpaw, the cat with the softest touch in the world.
Review of Puss in Boots
Puss in Boots is a racy and hilarious adventure and is quite possibly better than the last 2 Shrek movies. I loved the character of Puss with his bravado, honesty and ability to charm. Antonio Banderas does an exceptional job as his voice and his accent really injects a suppressed seductive quality to the character. For the most parts the humor is very clean and family friendly (although there are a few instances, especially one involving Humpty in a tight suit).
The character of Humpty Dumpty is also captivating often it is the Egg who carries the story on his shoulders (pun intended) and delivers the laughs. Kitty Softpaw adds the much needed sexy feminist touch with elan.
The plot of the Puss in Boots is also top notch with surprises strewn everywhere and a few genuine twists in the tale.
All in all I enjoyed Puss in Boots tremendously and though not quite in the same league as The Lion King and my personal favorite Aladdin, quite possibly Puss in Boots is the best anime to come out of Hollywood since Shrek.
