FILMENATOR - My Candid Take on Movies from Around the Globe

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

July 14th 2011 09:25

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is the second adventure of the weed-smoking, misfortune prone super cool Asian Americans, Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) and here is the low down on this hilarious sequel to the hit Harold and Kumar Goes to White Castle.

Story of Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

The story of this sequel starts from where Harold and Kumar Goes to White Castle ended with the Asian duo all set to take a trip to the weed capital of the World, Amsterdam and if possible hook up with Harold's crush Maria.

But when a paranoid old lady mistakes Kumar trying to smoke a joint in the plane using a special contraption of his devise for a terrorist trying to hi-jack the flight all hell breaks lose and before they know it Harold and Kumar are inmates at the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison as suspected terrorists.

The only hope for the duo is to somehow escape from Guantanamo Bay and embark on another crazy cross country misadventure to reach their friend Colton in Texas. Colton is politically well connected (besides being engaged to Kumar's ex-Girlfriend Vanessa) is the only person who can save them from their predicament...apart from the president of course.

But giving chase is a zealous but biased and stupid cop who is determined to somehow prove the Asians (who are actually American nationals) are fearsome terrorists exploiting the hospitality of America.

Review of Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

As in the case of Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle, here also the main
focus is on offering a humorous, malice towards none (or perhaps malice towards everyone) view of American jingoism as the Asian duo repeatedly fall victim to racial profiling, including a run in with the KKK. Though the movie can hardly be called subtle, it is definitely funny in a crude sort of way and revels in excesses. But, personally I feel this movies is definitely a lot funnier than the previous one.

But, be warned that Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay contains a remarkably high and graphic blood content for movie of its type.

Also, once again their is the presence of the supernatural (including a cyclops) and the animation is nothing to write home of about.

To sum it up, Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is a hilarious and sleazy sequence of misadventures and will be enjoyed by American Pie fans, but they really could have done without the supernatural stuff or perhaps hired a better graphics professional.
