FILMENATOR - My Candid Take on Movies from Around the Globe

Clash of the Titans

March 18th 2010 03:24

It seems that the writers of hollywood are running out of creative ideas. We have another remake of the 1981 film Clash of the Titans, Clash of the Titans (2010). This time Sam Worthington stars as Perseus the son of Zeus. Sam Worthington may not be considered an A-lister right now but he is certainly getting there and getting there fast.Sam Worthington has starred in other prominent movies like the recent Terminator, and of course, he played Jake Sully in Avatar. Another key cast member to add to the star power of this movie is Liam Neeso. The infamous actor for Oskar Schindler in Schindler's list is back to play the role of Zeus, the king of the gods on Mount Olympus. You might also recognize Ralph Fiennes, best known for his work in Harry Potter as Lord Voldemort and as Francis Dolarhyde in Red Dragon. He is once again playing the bad guy in this villian doing what he does best. I suspect that his performance as Hades will be spectacular

. While the previews certainly portray it as being jam packed full of mythical references from beyond just Greek myth like the Aegis and the Kraken (that's a Norse one for those who aren't up on their myths,) It seems to be following the generic "underworld horde" emerging to take over the realm of the living. Keeping in mind that the 1981 edition essentially followed perseus where this one seems to expand the plot a little (perhaps to attract a greater target audience?) The film includes intensely precise and detailed computer graphics and keeps up with the current trend of 3D action movies. It showcases a wide variety of scenes including the deepest depths of the underworld and its horde along with the magnificent beauty of heaven and Liam Neeson's Godly portrayal of Zeus.

Does it seem like they're going to roll off a decent 'remake' in the sense of keeping the theme, 'moderinizing' by replacing some of the original with good old hack-n-slash action, or do you wise bloggers feel like this will be another overbudgeted flop? It comes out in just 9 days, but feel free to play the role of oracle for us all and enlighten us to your predictions.

well u see, i never saw the 1981 edition but this one looks extremely good!!! I am seriously considering going to see it myself. I also think that it will be a smash hit because of the actors in it and the success their other movies have obtained.
