In Casino Royale (2006) James Bond returned to the thick of things after a rather long break with another champion actor at the helm, Daniel Craig. Incidentally, going by Ian Flemming's James Bond series, Casino Royale is the first outing of the quintessential British secret agent. Here is a review of the movie the ushered in a new era in the history of arguably THE most iconic film franchise ever.

Story of Casino Royale
In many ways life is a gamble you cannot afford to loose, and no one can

appreciate it better than Le Chiffre, premiere banker to the underworld. The only way he has of winning back the blood money of his clients that he has already lost is to participate in a high stakes poker game. But close on his heels is the M16 and their recently promoted 00 agent James Bond who believes they finally have Le Chiffre cornered and if they can somehow engineer Le Chiffre to lose the game his own dangerous clientele will do the dirty part of the job for the M16.

But the one fact James Bond and his beautiful associate Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) cannot afford to loose sight of is the fact that you don't survive as long as Le Chiffre has in the underworld without serious skills and a beast of prey is at his most lethal when cornered! And for Le Chiffre loosing is not an option.

Review of Casino Royale

I think the idea of poker really goes very well with the suave, sophisticated and unpredictable image of Agent 007 and the long poker sequences are as entertaining as the explosive chase sequence at the beginning of the movie.

The new glossy look which comes with the development of cinematographic technology in the last 2 decades also does wonders for this quintessential gentleman super secret agent.

Further, I think Daniel Craig has successfully sucker punched all his critics and proven that not only is he here to stay but is fast becoming my second favorite James Bond right after Sean Connery!

Last but definitely not the least, unlike the 1990s James Bond movies, the plot of Casino Royale is firmly grounded and sufficiently convincing to actually enthrall you. And then ofcourse there are always cutting edge (but not unduly futuristic) technology and the pretty girls sporting rising hemlines and plungin necklines. Casino Royale has preserved and enhanced the James Bond charm while taking the most success franchise in Hollywood history into yet another era
