January 16th 2011 06:37
Carlito’s Way (1993) is yet another charming Al Pacino thriller directed by Brian De Palma and co-starring Sean Penn.
The Story of Carlito’s Way
‘Retired’ con boss Carlito Brigante is determined to change his way of life for good and takes on the job of running a night club in the hope saving up enough money to leave New York for good and perhaps even reconcile with his old flame (who is a bar dancer), Gail. But old habits die hard! And it is difficult to run away from the only life you have ever known, specially when you are as famous ( or famous) as Carlito is in the world of heroin smuggling.
First he is drawn back into the shady world of trafficking by his nephew (who is just trying to make some pocket money) and then repeatedly gets approached by close friends and his best friend a lawyer, who had saved him from imminent imprisonment. And finally, he comes across an offer he cannot reject, or rather his instincts won’t let him reject.
Movie Making of Carlito’s Way
Carlito’s Way brilliantly captures the shady, sleazy world of drug lords and dealers, fraught with treachery, betrayal, risk and of course an enigmatic charisma and glamor.
Verdict on Carlito's Way
Al Pacino is simply superb as the Puerto-Rican ex-con man and Sean Penn is equally convincing as the brilliant attorney David Kleinfeld.
Their great performances backed by a tightly knit and thrilling narrative makes Carlito’s Way worthy of a watch, especially for movie buffs with the luxury of time to kill.
